Community Guidelines
The Total Veteran community exists for one purpose: to support veterans in rebuilding identity, structure, and purpose after service. Everything in these guidelines flows from that. We ask you to hold that purpose in mind whenever you participate.
Who This Community Is For
The Total Veteran community is open to veterans, service leavers, transitioning service members, veteran family members, and practitioners working in the veteran support space. It is a 18+ space, and participation requires acceptance of these Guidelines alongside our Terms and Conditions and Acceptable Use Policy.
The Standard We Hold
This is not a space for venting, for trolling, for political arguments, or for performance. It is a space for honest, constructive engagement with the real challenges of post-service life. That requires a specific quality of participation from everyone involved.
We expect all community members to:
- Engage with honesty and directness - say what you mean, without cruelty
- Respect the privacy of others - what is shared in the community stays in the community
- Speak from your own experience - your story is yours; do not claim others' experiences as your own
- Challenge ideas, not people - disagreement is welcome; personal attacks are not
- Acknowledge the diversity of service - different branches, ranks, and backgrounds bring different experiences; all are legitimate
- Support without prescribing - offer what helped you; do not tell others what they must do
What Is Not Permitted
Harassment and personal attacks
Harassment, bullying, intimidation, or sustained targeted negativity toward any individual is not permitted. This includes direct attacks, coordinated pile-ons, repeated unwanted contact, and the use of platform features to isolate or demean another member.
Discrimination and hate
Content that demeans, threatens, or discriminates against individuals or groups on the basis of race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, age, or any other protected characteristic will be removed and may result in account termination.
Medical and clinical claims
Members may share their own experiences, including experiences of mental health challenges, physical injury, or difficult transitions. What is not permitted is presenting personal experience as medical advice, making clinical claims about treatments or diagnoses, or discouraging others from seeking qualified professional support.
Crisis content without appropriate framing
Discussion of suicidal thoughts, self-harm, or experiences of crisis is permitted within the community, but must be handled with care. If you are sharing something difficult, we ask you to signal that in your post so others can engage thoughtfully. If you or someone in the community is in crisis, please direct them to appropriate emergency resources immediately.
Misinformation
Do not share information you know or believe to be false about military service, veteran health, transition support resources, or any other topic addressed on this Platform. Misinformation in a community of people navigating difficult transitions can cause real harm.
Unsolicited commercial activity
The community is not a marketplace. Promoting third-party products, services, or platforms without prior written permission from Total Veteran is not permitted. This includes affiliate links, service promotions, and recruitment for other platforms.
Impersonation
Do not impersonate any other person, including other community members, Total Veteran staff, coaches, or public figures. Do not misrepresent your military service, qualifications, or professional role.
Privacy violations
Do not share personal information about others without their consent. This includes sharing private messages, identifying information, or content from private spaces within the Platform.
Moderation
Total Veteran reserves the right to moderate community content and conduct at our discretion. Moderation actions may include content removal, warnings, temporary suspension, or permanent account termination, depending on the severity and frequency of the violation.
We aim to be fair, consistent, and transparent in our moderation. If you believe a moderation decision was incorrect, you may appeal by contacting us at support@totalveteran.com with the subject line "Community Appeal".
Reporting
If you see content or conduct that violates these guidelines, please report it using the in-platform reporting tool or by emailing support@totalveteran.com. We review all reports and will take action where warranted. We do not disclose the outcomes of individual moderation actions to reporters.
A Note on Difficult Conversations
Post-service life is genuinely hard. This community exists precisely because the standard narrative around veteran transition does not serve most veterans well. We encourage honest, direct conversation about the real difficulties - identity loss, structural collapse, relationship strain, purpose vacuum, the things that most transition programs do not address.
Honesty is not the same as harm. Directness is not the same as cruelty. We trust our community to know the difference.
